The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), funded under Title V of the Older Americans Act, has three purposes: to foster and promote useful part-time opportunities in community service activities for unemployed low-income persons who are 55 years of age or older and who have poor employment prospects; to foster individual economic self-sufficiency; and to move the number of older persons who may enjoy the benefits of unsubsidized employment in both the public and private sectors.
SCSEP trainees are placed in a variety of community service activities at nonprofit and public facilities such as museums and senior centers, and thrift stores. This on-the-job training experience can be a bridge to find employment opportunities outside of the program. Participants work an average of 20 hours a week and are paid the highest federal, state or local, minimum wage. In Wyoming this is $7.25 per hour.
